Pond Details 1993
These are the details of the first pond that, Jackie and myself constructed during July / August & September of 1993.
We started planning the building of our fish pond still with many questions that were unclear in our mind. We knew that I had to build the fish pond, waterfall, filter system and landscape around the pond. Our first step was to go and purchase a pre-cast fibreglass pond, which we used as a starting point to make the fish pond. During May / June 1997 whilst our new house was being built, we started construction of our new pond, waterfall and surrounding garden. The biological filtration systems was the same design as the first pond, with the addition of an extra chamber.
Pond 1 Details :
Location ......... Main pond which contains the gravity
feed to the biological filtration system
Volume ........... 3200 litres
Depth ............ 500mm
Surface Area ..... 2000mm x 3200mm
Shape ............ Kidney Shape
Construction ..... Fibreglass Construction with 150mm
concrete strip around edge of pond
and natural moss rock cemented around
the top.
Waterfall & Pond 2 Details :
Location ......... Smaller pond at base of waterfall.
Water then flows back into pond 1.
Volume ........... 810 litres
Depth ............ 350mm
Surface Area ..... 1100mm x 1100mm
Shape ............ Round
Construction ..... Concrete with 150mm concrete strip
around edge of pond and natural moss
rock cemented around
Pump Details :
Pump 1 ........... Hoselock 6000 which has a flowrate
of 6000 litre/hour at 0m head.
We use this pump to return the water
from the biological filter back to
the waterfall
Pump 2 ........... Platypus 770 which has a flowrate
of 3000 litre/hour at 0m head.
We use this pump in Pond 1 with an
ornamental fountain attached. It also
provides additional aeration to main
pond.
Fish :
Koi .............. Approx 40 fish ranging in size from
5cm to 55cm. Varities include
Fantails ......... 5 Fantails ranging in size from 5cm
to 10 cm.
Plants :
Various .......... Waterlillies (2 yellow, 1 blue and 1 white)
Water Iris (Purple)
